How would you describe your books to someone discovering your work for the first time?
My stories are fast-paced, edge of your seat, romantic suspense novels. Most of these stories take place in small towns and focus on big danger. I love writing about ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations.
What themes or ideas do you find yourself returning to in your writing?
I am a big believer in second chances so the theme of many of my books is redemption.
What does your writing process look like from first idea to finished manuscript?
My writing process can be a bit of a mess. Firstly, I do not write sequentially. I start with an idea, a character, or just something that captures my imagination. Then I sit down, drop my character into a scene and just start writing. No plotting for this girl! That makes my brain hurt, lol. I’m a true pantser because I learn about my characters and figure out my story as I write. However, that means at the end of my first draft, I have a jumbled mess that must be pieced together like a giant puzzle. Once my scenes are in order, I start fleshing out the details and polishing. It can sometimes be a difficult process but it works for me.
What role does setting play in your stories?
I love writing small town settings where real life happens. My characters could be your brothers or sisters or best friends who find themselves unexpectedly in danger.
What are you working on now, and what can readers look forward to next?
Safehouse Under Siege is the last book in my current Lone Star Defenders series. I’m sad to leave this series behind but the great news is that I’m currently working on book #3 of a brand new series called Texas Cold Case Squad. This new series will encompass two of my favorite things—cowboys and cold cases. The first book in the series Texas Cold Case Conspiracy releases in February.
