A runaway bride, a Renaissance Faire… and a murder ⚔️

Welcome to Sunset Cove

Volume 7 • Issue 1

Tuesday, September 15, 2026

🍂 FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Happy Tuesday, friends!

The presses are rolling again, and apparently we're beginning the week by sending someone to a Renaissance Faire. Under normal circumstances, that would involve turkey legs, questionable accents, people yelling huzzah, and at least one person who takes the costume contest entirely too seriously.

Today's circumstances are a little less festive.

We've got a runaway bride, a mischievous dachshund, a Renaissance Faire packed with people who may not be quite what they seem... and a murder. So, naturally, we're investigating.

But that's not the only case sitting on the news desk today. I've also got four more mysteries from fellow authors, another batch of FREE books waiting in the Community Book Exchange, and I've decided it's finally time to tell you a little more about the next mystery coming to Sunset Cove.

Slim Chance with a Killer

I've been keeping this one fairly close to the vest, but today I'm opening the case file just a crack.

First, though, somebody find Perry. We're going to the Renaissance Faire.

🐾 PERRY'S PAW PRINTS

"I've reviewed today's case," Perry informed me.

That's encouraging.

"There's a dog."

There is.

"A dachshund."

Also correct.

"And we're calling him an investigator?"

Perry...

"I'm simply asking whether there are minimum height requirements."

There are not.

"There should be."

— Perry 🐾

I see we're beginning Volume 7 with professional jealousy. Excellent.

🔦 TODAY'S MYSTERY SPOTLIGHT

🗞️ RUNAWAY BRIDE STRANDED AT RENAISSANCE FAIRE—THEN MURDER STRIKES

Death at the Renaissance Faire

A Christian Cozy Mystery Prequel by Juniper Quill

A runaway bride. A mischievous dachshund. A Renaissance Faire full of suspects.

Two weeks before her wedding, Jenna Harlow catches her fiancé kissing the wedding planner. Well. That's one way to cancel a wedding.

Heartbroken, furious, and suddenly without the future she'd planned, Jenna gets in her car and drives. Then she runs out of gas near the Falconwood Renaissance Faire, where her attempt at escaping one disaster drops her straight into another.

Instead of a quiet getaway, Jenna finds herself surrounded by velvet gowns, clanging swords, suspicious merchants, colorful performers, and more drama than a royal court. At first, Falconwood seems charming.

Then somebody is murdered behind the booths.

And there are plenty of people worth investigating, including a blacksmith with a scorching temper, an herb-shop owner with remedies and secrets, an antiques seller whose merchandise may not be entirely authentic, and Faire performers who make their living pretending to be someone else.

Fortunately, Jenna isn't entirely on her own. There's also Finn, a dachshund with a nose for trouble and absolutely no respect for personal space.

Jenna came to Falconwood because she was running away from one disaster. She certainly didn't plan on becoming an amateur sleuth. Then again, she didn't plan on becoming a runaway bride either.

And today's featured mystery comes with one particularly nice bit of news:

Death at the Renaissance Faire is FREE.

THE CASE FILES KEEP ARRIVING

Apparently word has gotten around that The Sunset Chronicles has room on the news desk, because I've got four more mysteries from fellow authors waiting for investigation today.

We've got different towns, different sleuths, different secrets, and presumably four completely reasonable people who will recognize a murder investigation when they see one and leave it to the professionals.

I'm sorry. I couldn't even write that with a straight face.

Take a look through today's bookshelf and see which case catches your attention. You never know when one of these might lead you straight to your next favorite series.

📚 COMMUNITY BOOK EXCHANGE

🗞️ FREE BOOKS HAVE RETURNED TO THE NEWSROOM

This section continues to be dangerous. Not financially dangerous, mind you. That's the problem. They're FREE.

Our Community Book Exchange has another collection of mysteries waiting for you today, so consider this your invitation to wander through the shelves and try something new. Pick an author you've never read, grab the cover that makes you stop scrolling, or choose the mystery whose description immediately makes you think, Well...now I need to know who did it.

That's how they get us. And I remain perfectly fine with it.

🗞️ NEWS FROM ELLY'S DESK

A NEW CASE IS COMING TO SUNSET COVE

I've been dropping little hints about my next book for a while now, and today I can finally tell you a little more.

SLIM CHANCE WITH A KILLER

This case begins with something millions of people would love to find: a miracle.

The Licorice Root Jelly Trick promises natural weight loss without injections, pills, or shakes, and there seems to be proof that it works. An Olympic hopeful has gotten remarkable results. So has a country-western superstar. They're recognizable, they're trusted, and they're telling people this product works.

People believe them.

Then Robin Davenport starts asking questions.

Robin is a Sunset Cove soccer mom. She's not an investigator, and she isn't trying to uncover some enormous conspiracy. She simply notices something that doesn't make sense: the celebrities promoting the miracle product and the everyday women buying it don't seem to be getting the same results.

So Robin starts digging.

What she discovers is worth a lot of money to the wrong people.

Days later, Robin Davenport is dead, drowned off the Sunset Cove docks.

Now Rosalind Harper-Cross is asking the questions Robin can no longer ask, with Perry Mason naturally keeping one watchful paw on the investigation. Because Robin didn't simply stumble across a product that might not live up to its promises.

She found something someone was willing to kill to protect.

🔎 WHAT I CAN TELL YOU

This case has a suspicious drowning, multiple suspects, a very profitable secret, celebrity and local endorsers, people who should be trustworthy, plenty of Sunset Cove connections, red herrings, secrets, and something important hiding in plain sight.

And, of course, Perry Mason.

What I'm not telling you yet is exactly what Robin discovered, who knew she'd discovered it, or why that made her dangerous. You'll have to wait for the book for those answers.

Everybody wanted the miracle. Somebody wanted her dead.

Slim Chance with a Killer is coming soon, and subscribers to The Sunset Chronicles will be among the first to hear when I have a release date to share.

Stay close. This case is just getting started.

📰 UNTIL TOMORROW...

That's Tuesday's edition officially headed to press. We've survived a runaway wedding, a Renaissance Faire, a murder, and Perry questioning a dachshund's professional qualifications. I've also finally cracked open the Slim Chance with a Killer case file, so I'd say that's enough trouble for one Tuesday.

We'll be back tomorrow with Volume 7 • Issue 2 and another trip through The Sunset Chronicles. Until then, grab something good to read, try not to become a murder suspect, and if a cat starts questioning your professional qualifications, don't take it personally.

He does that.

Happy Reading!
