🍂 FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
Happy Thursday, everyone!
We have officially made it to the final edition of The Sunset Chronicles for the week, and I think today's mystery is a pretty good way to send us into the weekend.
Because really, what could possibly go wrong at a cozy book festival?
Books. Authors. A charming village. A beautiful little bookshop. Literary gossip. It sounds like exactly where I'd like to spend a weekend.
Unfortunately, somebody had to go and add murder.
Today we're heading to Bluebell Bay, where mystery writer Emma Hart arrives for the town's spring book festival and finds herself with a real-life locked-room mystery to solve. We also have two more mysteries making headlines, plenty of free books in the Community Book Exchange, and a quick bit of news from Sunset Cove before I close the newsroom for the weekend.
Grab your coffee—or tea, if you're one of those people—and let's open today's edition.
🐾 PERRY'S PAW PRINTS
"I have reviewed your weekend schedule."
I don't remember giving you my weekend schedule.
"You had plans."
I do.
"I removed them."
Perry, you can't remove my plans.
"You have books to read."
That's not how—
"You're welcome."
And apparently my weekend has been decided.
🔦 TODAY'S MYSTERY SPOTLIGHT
RARE-BOOK APPRAISER FOUND DEAD INSIDE LOCKED BOOKSHOP ROOM
The Bluebell Bookshop Murder
An Emma Hart Cozy Mystery
by Charlotte Faye
A stolen manuscript. A missing author. A locked-room murder.
Mystery writer Emma Hart arrives in the charming village of Bluebell Bay expecting the biggest danger she'll face during the town's spring book festival to be crowded signings and a healthy dose of literary gossip.
Then rare-book appraiser Julian Cross is murdered inside the Bluebell Bookshop's locked Rare Editions Room.
And the clues don't quite fit.
While police focus their attention on a stolen first edition, Emma begins looking deeper. The bookshop owner's desperate nephew has blood found near the display case. A historian has a very public reason to hold a grudge. And a forgotten female author is at the center of a scandal involving far more than a missing book.
With Packer beside her, Emma begins uncovering a mysterious blue ribbon, hidden papers, the lingering scent of lavender—and a dangerous trail involving blackmail, forgery, and literary betrayal.
Someone has been keeping a story hidden between the pages.
Now Emma has to solve an impossible murder before the killer decides she belongs in the final chapter.
📰 MORE MYSTERIES MAKING HEADLINES
Three More Cases for Your Weekend TBR
One locked-room murder is hardly enough to get us through an entire weekend.
Three more mysteries from fellow authors are waiting for you in today’s edition. Take a look, investigate the covers, read the clues, and see whether either one deserves a spot on your weekend reading list.
I accept no responsibility whatsoever for the current condition of your TBR.
📚 COMMUNITY BOOK EXCHANGE
Your Weekend Reading Could Be Free
Before you start making responsible weekend plans, you should probably check the Community Book Exchange.
There are more free books waiting for you, which means this is an excellent opportunity to discover a new author, meet another amateur sleuth, or accidentally acquire enough reading material to abandon every productive thing you planned to accomplish this weekend.
Personally, I support the last option.
🌊 AROUND SUNSET COVE
The weekend is almost here in Sunset Cove, and this is about the time of year when I start wanting the evenings to slow down just a little.
September has that strange in-between feeling. Summer hasn't completely packed its bags, but fall is standing on the porch tapping its foot. The air starts changing, the evenings feel a little cozier, and suddenly staying home with a book sounds infinitely better than going anywhere.
Not that I require cooler weather to justify staying home with a mystery.
I've been perfectly capable of ignoring plans for a good book all summer.
Perry, naturally, believes staying home should be the default and leaving the house should require written justification.
📰 NEWS FROM ELLY’S DESK
KEEP WATCHING YOUR INBOX…
Before we close the newsroom for the weekend, one quick reminder about the little announcement I made yesterday.
The Slim Chance with a Killer ARC invitation is coming very soon.
If you've ever wanted to get inside a Rosalind and Perry investigation before release day, this is your chance. I'll be sending a special notice with the signup information, so keep an eye on your inbox.
Everybody wanted the miracle. Somebody wanted her dead.
That's still all I'm telling you.
For now.
🗞️ THE WEEKEND EDITION IS CLOSED…
And with that, Volume 7 is officially closed for the week.
We've investigated a murder inside the locked Rare Editions Room of a charming bookshop, added two more mysteries to the case files, opened the Community Book Exchange for some free weekend reading, and left one very important ARC invitation hanging over the newsroom.
I'd say we've accomplished enough.
Wherever this weekend takes you, I hope you find a little time to slow down, curl up somewhere comfortable, and disappear into a really good mystery.
We'll be back next week with Volume 8 • Issue 1 and another case waiting to be opened.
Until then, have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
Stay cozy. Keep reading. And if you happen to find yourself alone inside the locked Rare Editions Room of a quaint little bookshop...
Maybe don't touch anything.
Happy Reading!
