🗞️FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK
Happy Tuesday, everyone, and welcome to another week in Sunset Cove!
I hope your week is off to a good start. Around here, we're doing what we do best—settling in with good books, keeping an eye on our neighbors, and pretending the number of murder investigations crossing my desk is perfectly normal.
Today's mystery is taking us a little farther from home. Actually, quite a bit farther.
We're heading across the pond to Britain, where a retired American private investigator finally decides it's time to take the dream vacation she's been putting off for years. Castles, historic villages, famous landmarks—the sort of trip where your biggest concern should be whether you packed comfortable enough shoes.
Instead, she meets a mysterious gentleman with a lifetime of MI6 secrets, a celebrated historian is murdered, and her carefully planned vacation turns into an investigation.
So much for relaxing.
We also have more mysteries making headlines today and another batch of free books in the Community Book Exchange, so get comfortable.
Volume 8 is officially open. Let's investigate.
🐾 PERRY'S PAW PRINTS
"I would go to Britain."
Really?
"Obviously."
What would you do in Britain?
"Castles."
You want to visit castles?
"I belong in a castle."
You scream outside the bathroom door when I close it.
"Because locking royalty out of a room is disrespectful."
And The Sunset Chronicles is officially back in business.
🔦 TODAY'S MYSTERY SPOTLIGHT
RETIRED P.I.'S DREAM BRITISH VACATION TURNS INTO AN MI6 INVESTIGATION
MacGregor and the Secrets of MI6
A Maggie MacGregor Mystery — Book 1
by Greta Sinclair
She came to Britain to check off a bucket list. She never expected to become part of someone else's last wish.
After years of putting everyone else first, retired American private investigator Maggie MacGregor is finally taking the trip she's always dreamed about.
Britain. Castles. Villages. Historic treasures.
And absolutely no investigations.
Then Maggie meets Ian Blackwell, the distinguished, silver-haired gentleman seated in 4C. He's charming, quietly witty, and seems to know Britain better than any guidebook.
Maggie assumes he's simply another traveler.
What she doesn't know is that Ian has spent a lifetime keeping secrets for MI6.
Then celebrated historian Oliver Ashcombe is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message intended specifically for Maggie.
Her dream vacation suddenly becomes something much more dangerous.
Maggie and Ian begin following a trail of coded recipes, forgotten journals, and long-buried secrets, only to discover that Oliver wasn't protecting some hidden treasure.
He was protecting history itself.
And someone is willing to do anything to make sure the truth stays buried.
With danger closing in—and an unexpected romance quietly beginning to unfold—Maggie has to trust the investigative instincts she thought she'd left behind.
Because solving Oliver's final mystery may require more than coming out of retirement.
It may mean risking her heart, too.
📰 MORE MYSTERIES MAKING HEADLINES
More Cases Have Landed on the News Desk
Apparently one international mystery wasn't enough for our first edition of the week.
I have more mysteries from fellow authors waiting for you today, so take a look through the case files and see what catches your attention. You may find a new sleuth to follow, a new town to investigate, or another series to add to the TBR you keep insisting is already full.
We both know there's room.
📚 COMMUNITY BOOK EXCHANGE
FREE BOOKS HAVE ARRIVED
The Community Book Exchange is open again, and we've got more free reads waiting for you.
If you're looking for a new mystery without adding anything to your book budget, have a look through today's collection. These promos are one of my favorite ways to discover authors I might not have stumbled across otherwise—and occasionally discover an entire series I suddenly need to investigate.
Which is excellent news for readers.
Less excellent news for our available reading time.
🌊 AROUND SUNSET COVE
While Maggie MacGregor is off exploring Britain, we're settling into another September week here in Sunset Cove.
We're officially into that part of the month where fall is no longer merely threatening to arrive. The mornings are cooler, the evenings are getting darker earlier, and I'm reaching the point where I can justify cozy blankets and warm drinks without anyone accusing me of rushing the season.
Although, after my complaints about stores putting out Halloween decorations ridiculously early, I suppose I should be careful.
I'm still not ready for Christmas trees.
September gets to be September.
There. I've made my ruling.
📰 FROM ELLY’S DESK
We've got plenty happening behind the scenes in Sunset Cove, too, and I'll have more to share with you as the week goes on.
I'm especially excited about what's coming with Slim Chance with a Killer and Rosalind and Perry's newest investigation. There will be more news about that very soon, so if you've been waiting to get an early look at their next case, keep watching your inbox.
For now, I'm behaving myself and keeping the case file closed.
Mostly.
📰 UNTIL TOMORROW...
That's Volume 8 • Issue 1 in the books.
Today we traveled to Britain with a retired private investigator who discovered that vacations and murder investigations apparently aren't mutually exclusive, opened more case files from fellow mystery authors, and stocked the Community Book Exchange with free reads.
Not bad for a Tuesday.
We'll be back tomorrow with another edition of The Sunset Chronicles and another mystery waiting to be investigated.
Until then, find something good to read, enjoy your Tuesday, and remember:
If the charming silver-haired gentleman sitting next to you on the plane seems to know an unusual amount about international espionage...
Maybe ask a few questions before accepting the sightseeing recommendations.
Happy Reading!
