Happy Wednesday!
Hi friend,
Can you believe it's the last day of September already? Where does the time go?
We're taking it easy this week since we're both sick. Joe caught something last week, and I fought it off valiantly for a while, but eventually caught the bug from him.
I don't share your prayer requests with others when they come in, but I will ask you this week to pray for your fellow newsletter subscribers. Some are going through tough seasons, and God knows their needs, so please lift them and their families up in your prayers. Please also lift up the members of my Writer Warriors Group, as well.
And if you'll reply and share your specific prayer requests, I'd be honored to pray for you, as always.
FROM MY WRITING DESK
Some writing-related tasks have very little to do with actual writing. This week, I'm focused on getting the Pennsylvania ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers) chapter back up and running. The longer I work in this industry, the more I understand how solitary this journey can be and how important it is for new writers, especially, to have a support system to guide them along the journey and help them become the writers God called them to be.
We can use your prayer as we go through the process of reestablishing our local chapter.
In other news, the rights to Blast Radius are officially mine again, so I'll be planning the relaunch soon.
I've also been choosing the hymns for the hymn-based devotional I'm working on. It was initially going to be a 365-day devotional, but I've decided to do the devotional 30 days at a time and then combine them when I have enough of them to keep the project scope more doable with all the things on my plate.
I may also publish a Bible study on Esther. I've been teaching it in Women's Bible Study, and it occurred to me that there is plenty of material for a published study, so I'd like to make that happen.
But no worries, I'm quitting fiction. I have a few things in the pipeline including another global thriller. This one starts out in Tajikistan when an asset working with the CIA is found slaughtered in his home.
Speaking of my fiction, if you haven't read this title yet, here's a sneak peek:
Grave Pursuits
Emily stood beside Austin and lifted her hand in greeting when a Crown Vic entered the lot. A man exited the vehicle and strode toward them. There was something familiar about his walk.
When his startlingly blue eyes met hers, she took a step back and wrapped her arms around her body. Eleven years melted away in an instant, and a familiar vice grip took hold on her heart. She didn't break eye contact with the man responsible for her pain.
"Em. I didn't know you were a DCNR ranger."
She'd never expected to see him again. Never. Yet here he was in the flesh, and the grownup version of Wade Brunner was wreaking havoc on her composure.
"I take it you two know each other," Austin said.
"We were high school sweethearts. Isn't that right, Em?" Wade locked his gaze with hers again.
"Ancient history." She swallowed and broke eye contact as another sedan drove up.
"It's good to see you. Although I wish the circumstances were less grim," Wade said.
She glanced over her shoulder. Austin took a step closer, and she looped her arm through his.
Wade held out a hand to shake Austin's. "Sergeant Brunner, but you can call me Wade." He raised an eyebrow. "Are you two seeing each other?"
She elbowed Austin to keep him from answering. "That is not your business."

FARM NEWS
Not much new on the farm. We did pick up the rest of the hay (first cut this time), and the goats seem satisfied with it. Farmer Joe also grabbed the goats some special goat treats that they are enjoying immensely. Unfortunately, the acorn harvest is slowing down, so they won't be getting them much longer.
As for Farmer Joe's old rooster buddy, he's still spending his days on our front porch, which wouldn't be so bad if he didn't poop everywhere. He has his own ceramic water bowl out there, and we bring him treats a few times a day. He gets a bit annoyed when the treat is just chicken food instead of leftovers, though. He lies on the welcome mat or stands there staring in through the glass door like he's waiting to be welcomed inside. Fat chance of that happening, but you can't blame a guy for trying.
INTERVIEW & GIVEAWAY
This week on Heartbeats & Hideaways, I’m welcoming romantic suspense author Carol J. Post. Carol shares how her love of Love Inspired Suspense led her to study the books as a writer, the role faith plays in her stories, and the inspiration behind her upcoming release, Defending the Innocent Target.
She also gives us a peek at a Christmas anthology project and a new romantic suspense series she’s developing in Arkansas. Plus, one reader will win a copy of Defending the Innocent Target, either print for a U.S. mailing address or digital for a winner outside the U.S.
Carol is a good friend as well as a fantastic author. I hope you'll check out the post as well as her books.
A police officer will do anything to catch the serial killer that got away—even if it means playing a deadly game in the icy wilderness.

But this time, there’s a special message, daring Aurora to play a game that will lead her into the wilderness to try and save the next victim.
Canadian Watcher Squad survivalist Kordell Greene is part of the past that Aurora has tried to put behind her. He’s also the only person equipped to guide her through this deadly terrain. But somehow, the killer knows all their secrets. Solving cryptic clues as they battle the elements, Aurora and Kordell must confront dark truths they’ve withheld, even from each other. And always, the Shadow Box Killer is one step ahead, drawing them deeper into a twisted game where the slightest mistake may be their last.
