Deliver a reader magnet

A reader magnet—the free novella or bonus epilogue readers get for joining your list—has its home under your audience's Reader magnets.

Set one up

  1. Create the magnet and upload its files—EPUB and/or PDF (readers pick their format on the download page). EPUB is best: it reflows to any screen and Kindle accepts it now. PDF works too, but it doesn't reflow and is the easiest format to copy around, so offer EPUB when you can.
  2. Open the signup form that should give it away, and choose the magnet in the form's Delivers setting.

That's the whole setup. When someone signs up (and confirms, if the form uses double opt-in), they get a delivery email with their download link, and the confirmation page offers the download immediately.

How delivery behaves

  • Download links are personal, not public—each reader gets their own, good for 5 downloads over 30 days. Enough for phone, e-reader, and a re-download; not enough to be worth posting somewhere public.
  • A reader who signs up again doesn't get a duplicate—they're recognized and offered their existing download.
  • If someone loses the email, they can just go through the form again with the same address.
A magnet form plus a welcome sequence is the classic pairing: the form delivers the book, the sequence (triggered by that form) introduces you over the next weeks while they're reading it.
